Ok my sound on all games was working just fine until i decided to change some midi's on them, got called away from the puter and my 3yr old got on here and i have no clue what she did. My midi's use windows media player always have but the GAME.RES file has also changed so that it uses wmp also and now i get no sound at all!
Don't know what program the res file is supposed to be open with to change it back? i tried un-installing then re-installing but it still doesnt change back.

Not my area of expertise, Ann, but did you check that the codec that goes with WMP was not screwed as well??
How about the file associations for midi files??
What did you try to reinstall, games or WMP??

Well sound was all working fine an hour ago, til my lil got on here after stupid me leaving files open and having to leave the puter.
wmp is playing other midi's just fine, so there's nothing wrong there. Im thinking it has something to do with th e GAME.RES file being changed so that it uses wmp to now, when it shouldnt be. But i have no clue what it is supposed to use and yes tried installing these games again and it didnt revert back to whatever its supposed to be /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Im guessing that the GAME.RES file is the file that tells the program which music to play at each time, as since that is messed up there is no music.
hmmm where is Admin when ya need him? /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/15Groaner.gif

Reinstalling the games should correct the problem. That it hasn't indicates that there is something else going wrong with your system iteslf. Even if the file associations for midi files within Windows had changed, Pokie Magic would ignore those changes anyway.
Are you still receiving sound on other applications?

Yes sound is working for everything else, just not on the pokie magic games since the .res file changed.

Reinstalling would create a correct copy of the files in any case Ann. Try deleting a Pokie Magic folder entirely and then reinstalling that game.

ok sorry to be frustrating but i have done that.
After the .res file got changed when i went to play the games it popped up with some error about a file being corrupt and then access violations, to try re-installing it. so i had to fully delete all games and re-install them (making manually that all files had been removed before re-installing). But after re-installing the res file still hasnt gone back to normal.
ahhh im totally lost..think i have something serioulsy wrong somewhere /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What happens when you double click on one of the .mid files to try and play it manually?

i dont hear anything playing them manually. They still play and no errors come up, but just dont hear anything, its a slient midi.
Although wmp still plays other midi files.
Just fully un-installed one game again and redownloaded it and reinstalled...but still not working /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
sorry to be a pain

There is a problem with your windows sound setup somewhere, but the fact the midi's don't play properly at any point indicates there is a volume or other hidden setting in Windows itself which is causing the problem.
Pokie Magic ignores systemwide file associations, so please don't worry about any particular files from our installations being the problem.
Does your system have a "rollback" function? I used it on this Windows XP machine only yesterday, and it really saved the day.

nope no rollback unfortunately.
I was thinking something to do with volume but like i said other midi's i have (not pokie magic ones) are playing fine and i can hear them fine also.
What exactly is the .res file ?? i mean whats its function? does it have anything to do with the sound and telling which sound files to play and when?
its okay when im done being a pain ill let you take your frustration out on me and poke me with your stick

Pokie Magic midi files are no different to any other midi files out there. Its quite odd that you can play some midis but not others. Have you rebooted your pc today?

/webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif hey im not blonde! of course i've rebooted my pc today, i always reboot after un-installing then re-installing stuff . and before you ask...YES my speakers are turned on /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Im lost at that too..why others play but not pokie magic ones. Maybe i should try un-installing wmp and re-installing, maybe by luck it might work. But still worried about this .res file being changed, and if its function is to tell the music where and when to play it wont make a diff until i get that file back to normal. hmmm
