In an environment such as the pokie games, the fun of playing comes in getting high scores during feature wins.
The 'negatives' that occur in Bankers Bullion-the robber stealing spins and dollars, in Santas Surprise where 'Santa loses your bonus' detract from the games - acting as 'downers' to the positive experience of scoring credits.
Can we do away with these negatives leaving a more positive
fun experience?

I can see ya point, Chuck, but personally disagree. Of course, I ain't the programmer, just another fan.
I sort of like the fact that there is a little dude to curse at occasionally, specially in Santas Surprise.

That's my point, in the 'free' world of pokie magic, we
should be having the enjoyment of positive gains that make
the pokie magic world unique and different. I don't get
any enjoyment from 'cursing a little dude'. But, that's me.

By the way, both the previous replies from timetoplay and Greg, you agreed about the Highland Fling thing that was
a 'negative' that is where the auto feature wins were
generally low versus the manual selection.. so you like
a more positive result from your reactions on that subject.
Timetoplay
18-11-2003, 03:46 PM
I agree that it would be good not to have them in the game but I still think there's got to be some challenge to the game, whereas in Highland Fling, you can go over 300 spins before you get the feature and when you do at times it only gives you one free spin... now that's frustrating /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif wheras the other games give you a combination of things throughout the feature and that can be challenging... maybe seeing the robber less and the paying pressies more would be a compromise. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Chuck
18-11-2003, 03:52 PM
For me, I don't need or want a challenge while enjoying
the 'free' world of pokie magic. There is enough
'challenge' in real world pokies, that is, trying to come
out ahead which I am trying to 'escape' from in pokie magic
land.
Spyone1 (Greg)
18-11-2003, 03:54 PM
Ah, but there are two major points of difference there.
1) Highland Fling has a constant differential between the autoplay feature and the manual feature. I was commenting on the possibility of having it more comparable.
2) Santas Surprise "Santa Lost Your Bonus" is an occasional thing. From memory (I was compiling stats for a while) it occured about once in 10 or 12 Santas, especially in Version 16.X ...an acceptable ratio in my not-so-important opinion.
Taking your point to the next level, it would be possible to argue that Dino Dollars should not have the Ice Age selection, because it detracts from scoring high scores consistently.
Don't get me wrong, Chuck, I respect your opinion and God knows you are entitled to it, I have no intention of trying to squash your suggestion. I just happen to disagree on this one, particularly about Santas Surprise. I am going to remain on the fence about Bankers Bullion though. I am fairly neutral about that one.
I dunno about anyone else, but I appreciate your input. It makes a nice change to have something "meaty" to think about here, even if I do happen to disagree sometimes.
Chuck
18-11-2003, 03:59 PM
I forgot about the 'ice age' penalty in Dino Dollars. Yes,
that's another 'negative' that falls in this basket.
Thanks for the honest disagreement, I'm not worried about
my suggestion being squashed, just want a fair hearing
on this 'suggestion'.

LOL. Anytime.
As you have seen, if I agree with something, I am more than happy to comment...so I suppose it is reasonable that if I disagree, I should comment also, without giving insult....and I most certainly did not wish to give insult in this case!!
Chuck

By the way, as you can readily see I'm an 'optimist',
trying to see the brighter side of things recognizing
that this tendency is an attempt to avoid the harsh, real
world. That's why in this fantasy world of pokie magic,
where money is not the object, we are playing a game. And,
as I think about it games-like pc games, for instance, are
filled with 'challenges' in their unique environment. So,
I guess the pokie magic world is no different.
But, in keeping with my outlook, I wish it were different.

Hey Chuck I understand where you're coming from and that is, we play these games for pure enjoyment not frustration and if we want to be frustrated then we can go to the club and lose our money or the shirt off our back!! On the other hand, Greg has a good point as well so I guess it's up to the powers that be to look into it (not sure if Greg is one of those!). /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Chuck
18-11-2003, 04:46 PM
The pokie magic games like real world pokies are frustrating
when you have played a number of spins waiting for the
feature hit, only to gain very little. In the pokie magic
world, at least, we don't have the money loss attached to the
frustration. The game statistics on each game have info
about the 'money saved by not playing a real pokie' indicating
to me that which attracted me to pokie magic land in the
first place. So the stress is in avoiding the real world.

Outside of the forum, I am a normal Pokie Magic game owner, with absolutely no say in what happens or what goes on with the Pokie Magic games...nor any extra information on release dates or upcoming games either, for that matter. *sob*.

They really do save a fortune, Chuck, if you play them in place of the real ones, especially if you are a regular punter at the real ones.
I suppose the "frustration factor" is part of the sales pitch as well. Certainly Dino Dollars generated more interest and more discussion (and presumably more frustration) than any previous game....at least if the forum discussions were anything to go by.
I know a number of people bought the game because they wanted to beat "the damn Cretacous feature", but didnt get a chance in their 1000-odd free spins.
From that point of view, very clever. You have to keep in mind that, although Pokie Magic games are very cheap and there is a lot of attached extras (such as this forum), the Pokie Magic team DO want to sell them!! They are not doing this as an entirely altruistic exercise.
I think if the games followed a straight progression of always paying exactly as we wished, they would sell less..
Again, my opinion only....*shrug*

The idea of purchasing dino dollars to beat the
Cretacous thing is interesting. I started purchasing
the games because of the fun of playing games that were
like the real world pokies at no money out of pocket other
than the purchase price which I would have blown quickly in
a real world pokie..if not much more. So, how did you
learn of the folks with the desire to beat the thing?

In the main, from talking to them, Chuck. Asking them.
Not everyone follows that philosophy, of course. People purchase these games for myriad reasons. I just thought it was a sound sales pitch.
The High Scores online would also add to the interest in purchasing the games, by adding a much larger competitive interest.
I must say I am as interested in helping out, monitoring the forums, testing, offering help and suggestions, things like that, as I am in actually playing the games nowadays.
Of course, having 3 high scores helps...*grin*
good on you greg for your opions and help you have given and rest of you for yours

thanks chuck.
