View Full Version : Highscores Global Reset

We would like to know whether highscores users support the idea of resetting all highscores. Its going to be based entirely on the feedback here.

Reasons for doing so: its getting very difficult for a lot of users to beat their highscores.

(polls are not working properly, so please post your replies)

As I have two high scores, I would be upset to see that disappear!!

What would Megan think - she has heaps of high scores!!! /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif

I would prefer that the highscores are not reset. I have enough low scores to keep me busy trying to better them. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Not too worried, Admin.

Is there a way to keep a record of the previous high score if they WERE reset?? sort of like a sheet with JUST the high scores for each game.....

If that were possible, then yeah, resetting is fine.

Does this mean that whatever score we have on our games is reset to zero or can we resend the scores we have already?

I'm happy with my progress at the moment so I'm not sure that I'd like my highscores reset but if it must be then I'm not that fussed. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel2.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sades, I am not sure, but last time it was reset, the following happened:
1) a new version of each game was put up for download
2) the high scores were reset
3) the high scores would only accept scores from the latest version.

Oh, and installing the games reset the stats on your computer too!!!

I have no idea if that is what Admin has in mind this time or not....

Spot on Greg.

I gathered as much Greg, but I think there'll be a few people who will protest since they hold a fair few no 1 spots but I guess in the end it makes it fair for all the newcomers to be on equal ground with everyone else. As I said, I like where my scores are at the moment but I'll go with whatever happens.

I think it is the majority from here.......

If it is possible to keep a record of the previous set of scores, then I am all for it..

well it really dont bother me either way.although i just got a #1 spot after a long time i do realise some scores are so hard to beat.but i will settle for what is best for everyone concerned.

btw greg why would ya want a copy of the old scores. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headscratch.gif

LOL. Cause I have two of them Peter.

I was thinking that it would keep a record, for posterity, for those people who currently have number 1 scores, that's all. It may swing across some of those people who are current number 1 holders who "dont want to lose their number 1 ranking".....

I have to admit, for some of the scores, it would be better to reset...Bankers Bullion, for example. I doubt anyone will ever get even close to Lawries score.

i agree lawrie will be upset but i believe it is the fun of getting them again that will swing the votes.(maybe even i may get more than 1 then) /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif "yea right"

That's the luck of the draw. I am against resetting and
having to 'restart' the effort across all of the games.

What I would support is a very selective reset of games that
polling indicates folks favor resetting. That way, we aren't stuck with a massive effort across all games at the same time-trying to achieve high scores. It would be like
the recent release of DD5SE and DD6SE where we could focus
on a few games to 'hit'.

I personally wouldn't want to see the scores reset. Moving up the scale seems to be a product of how much you play the games.

Just my 2c.

trying to beat yours and other high scores is the name of the game if you didn't have the high score comp going the would get boring that is just my opinion

Personally it doesn't bother me either way, as I have just started building my score up from scratch again, to get my scores back to those posted /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shh.gif I think its the challenge that keeps me intersted.. that is why I play.. to beat others on the highscores, A lot of people do sit and play the games as entertainment to reach their highscores ..which is then a personal achievement for them..Anyway I'm here for the fun of the game not the glory of a no 1 placing /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif which I probably won't achieve in this lifetime /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif so whatever you choose to do admin, is fine by me. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wavey.gif

Well here goes my 2c worth.
I don't mind the scores being reset as long as:
1] all the games come with Hi score button, like the SE games
2] that Crazy Fruit non paying scattereds is fixed
3] Santa Surprise pays all the snowmen not just some. [I know that it is supposed to be only non paying ones that don't work but there is always that doubt]
4] Bunny Bucks is fixed so that when you actually get 50 spins in the freebies it really does gives them to you.

Pushy cow I know but these things really bug me /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Taking your statement literally, 'difficult.. users to beat
their highscores'. If the concern is only about beating ones own highscore, reset the high scores for those
who request it. That's how ludicrous this all sounds.
If a global reset is done, we will be back in the same boat
given the ultrafast autoplay that is available.. granted
with different high scores. So then what is the point of
trying to achieve high scores knowing they will be reset
periodically. It flys in the face of the fact that the
higher player performance rankings also show that in general
they have the higher number of plays. It is as I posted
once on a forum, my high scores were due to luck and
persistence-playing the games a lot. All that time down
the drain with a global reset. Let's treat high scores in
pokie magic land like athletic scores, i.e. the best time
for the mile run. They aren't about to 'reset' the times
so runners can beat their previous best times.

Sorry to go on like this, but this is an important topic
to air out.

This is not possible any more Chuck.

I think "ludicrous" is a bit of an overadjective. We have requested comments, not arbitrarily decided to reset the scores.

Chuck

My use of the term ludicrous applied to what I thought would
be the reaction to individual scores being reset.

Enough said, I didn't mean to over react to this global
reset issue, but it reminds of a previous post I made where
I thought the posting of highscores had changed the whole
feel of playing the games. Originally, ones own local credits for a game were the only goal to make higher. The highscores posting created a friendly climate of competition
albeit based on luck rather than skill. At that time I
made suggestions about adding a 'skill' factor to the
games to differentiate it from just luck. Shortly after that, Bankers Bullion was available which introduced choices
influencing the feature. Still not really a skill factor, but okay considering I'm not sure what could be done to
introduce a skill factor. Back to the subject at hand, the
fact that luck and playing a lot of the same game determines
how high a score one gets, retaining the high scores rewards
that effort-playing a lot.

So in closing, I strongly favor retaining the high scores
as is.

My opinion.
Id be kinda upset since I have 6 highscores and #1 on the PPI even though Its getting difficult to beat my own scores. But i still enjoy the challenge. Is there anyway of having a seperate link called something like "Past Highscores" or something with the dates Aug-Dec with the PPI Rankings list/highscores if it were to be reset?
I really dont have an answer sorry Admin.

Okay. having been on the fence, I am going to come down on the side of NOT resetting the high scores.

Chuck has some very good points, and in this case his points were enough to sway me in that direction.

Your call, as always, Admin.

When the high scores are reset, would it be possible to keep the 2003 scores as a historical value - that way if I get a highscore for say DD6 SE, I could click on a link to see if my highscore for 2004 would have beaten the highest score set in 2003.

The saving of 2003 highscores data was already planned, but there will be no active links in the pages - only the main data is being kept, not individual profiles.

We recommend you save your personal data NOW if you wish to keep it on your computer. To do this, navigate to your profile page and choose "Save as" from the Internet Explorer File menu.

Admin has mentioned previously that new versions of the games will need to be downloaded, but I don't know when they will be available.
