I can't vouch for the accuracy, but it appears as though the worlds first Poker Machines appeared around 1899.

Did they have electricity back then ? /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
Pokies paying winnings in chewing gum ?
What would people want today distributed from pokies if it couldn't be coins ?
Me ? ... gold bars ! hehe
Cheers

Very intresting Paul, liked the part about the blokes making the slots to keep their women entertained while they played the high roller games. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grumpy.gif
The Monarco is impressive from the outside but decidely shabby on the inside at least when I was there. The pokies are in another building as the big gamblers dont like all the noise associated with pokies. It is called the American Casino and is just across the parking lot.

Hi Sue
The only Casino's I have been to were several in Las Vegas
back in the early 1990's. Lots of fun at the time but not
something I particularly aspire to doing again.
There is a lot to do there and the casinos are all very different. They all know how to take your money if you are
prepared to part with it !
Interestingly, I read a report somewhere that Las Vegas
makes more money from conventions and associated tourism
than it does from gambling. Once again I am not sure whether this is true or not. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
