Found this on the net...:)
If you read the second sentence you see that the "third" word is "hungry".
The author is writing here about the third word in the second sentence of the riddle, exactly as quoted, NOT some mythical third commonly used English word ending in "-gry".

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

George, Helen, and Steve are drinking coffee.
Bert, Karen, and Dave are drinking soda.
Using logic, is Elizabeth drinking coffee or soda?
Hey! George, Helen and Steve all have 2 E's in their names (which fits Elizabeth in well because she has 2 E's in her name) and the word coffee has 2 E's so i presume Elizabeth will be drinking coffee with the other 3 because Bert Karen and Dave only have 1 E.

Long way round for the explanation but spot on:12cheer: :12cheer:
Draw a line on the first plus sign. This turns it into a 4! The equation then becomes true:
545+5=550
Alternate answer: Draw a line through the equals sign, making it a "not equal to" sign
