View Full Version : Flea Markets (again)

We are getting about five complaints a week from users saying they "bought" our software at flea markets and that the rego codes are not working/causing problems etc.
If you buy our games at a flea market, YOU ARE BUYING THE SHAREWARE VERSION ONLY. Do NOT pay for rego codes at a flea market.
One lady has sent 6 emails today, complaining that the cd she paid $2 for is not working.
To those people using certain codes found on certain warez sites.....good luck getting your games to work again /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mr Admin...Just a thought....Surely you must know who the
shared codes were originally given to that have shown up in the warez sites. If this were the case....those people
deserve the most sharpest and biggest stick from your cabinet !
Cheers

There was one particular code which was hardwired into the game...before we added encryption to the software.
We do know who received codes, but once blocked we receive all sorts of excuses about why they were released into the wild. We have been somewhat sterner about reissuing codes recently.

Quality software whether it be games, office software or relating to any other area is worth paying for. Pokie magic software is worth every cent we pay for it. I wonder if those who have shared the codes would like it if you shared
their names in a hall of infamy like some other sites have done. I can certainly understand your concerns though Mr Admin.

Hall of Infamy. Excellent idea, do you still have any of the URLs?
Sounds like a great idea to me Paul, they are scumbags in my book...

Not off the top of my head (definately remember seeing a number of them)...but the concept may make people think twice if their names appear in such an area for all and sundry to see that they have sold you down the drain !

Actually a novel approach for this site would be to design a pokie with their names spinning up on the cogs !
Go for it !
Cheers
Paul
We could have a name the game competition too...There would be some beauties thought up...hehehe

Yes Sue, the genuine Pokie Magic community would hate to
see this happening. Some great names would inevitably be
thought up !

Go for it on the Hall of Infamy!! Could even post it here on the website....and only registered players could access it???
Then again, would hate to see you up for some sort of defamation case or something...but I love the idea.

You should make this one of the sticky threads to keep it in view for a while Mr Admin as a warning to what could happen !

Peter and I do a lot of the Markets in the Newcastle and surrounding areas and I have not seen any pokie magic games for sale but if I do they had best be able to run fast while I am parked on their toes cause I would make it very well known that they were illegal copies not to be sold and being well known it wouldn't take long to get all around so if any head my way they had best watch out /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/5smackbottom.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/5smackbottom.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/5smackbottom.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/5smackbottom.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackwhip.gif I will pass this info around anyway if they are there we will find them

Last time I saw one of those people selling the Pokie Magic discs was in Melbourne last September...and he was supplying the "hard coded" password Admin mentioned earlier.
By the time I got home it was nearly a week later, and I don't think I was chatting to anyone from Pokie Magic at that time...but I keeps my eyes open, I does!!

Admin you should get in touch with Markets and Fairs Magazine and let them know about this scam as it is an Australia wide publication specially designed for marketeers and organisers and they would probably print an article on it, that way all the ligit traders would be on the look out for them, it would be worth a try

The problem is that the shareware versions (with the free spins for evaluation purposes) are perfectly legit, and (please correct me if I am wrong, Mr Admin) therefore they are allowed to be passed on by people at flea markets...
PROVIDED
these "salespeople" advise that they are trial only, will expire after XXXX spins and will have to be registered by purchase from Pokie Magic after that time.
If they provide any sort of password, including that aforementioned hard coded one that no longer works, then they have stepped into illegal territory.

It is worth telling M&F as they have always tried to clean out the riff raff at markets and it will alert a lot of people in a very short time to be on the look out for the ones passing on codes

Thanks Tanya, do you have their contact details?
And yes Greg, distribution is ok, but in every instance we have been made aware of so far, they are also "selling" the registration codes. Apart from REGNOW, the American processing company, we are the only people able to supply codes directly.
Another trick some people are trying is to use a stolen credit card number to purchase the games.... the SA police in particular are very concerned to track these people down. We had regular chats with a Sergeant in Port Adelaide (or similiar) about what was occurring down that way.

Crikey....Am I ever glad I paid cash and dont have a credit card!!!
I had no idea it was that serious. No wonder you are at your wits end!! (and that was not meant as an insult either).

Question admin.... That lady obviously thought she was paying for the code right? Cause otherwise im wondering why anyone is stupid enough to pay $2 for the trial version when you can download it for free /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif
Oh and i have been defending your games, so far i been called a snitch and a few censored words but its worth it /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif Im sure you seen that on the site i pm'ed you with and cant wait to see them crack a poo when they find the codes from there i sent you are now deactivated /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif

I can understand paying $2 for the downloaded demos, Ann. To download all 11 (or 12 or 13 or whatever) games takes quite a while on a 56.6k modem, let alone a slower one.
Add in the fact that a lot of people do not have burners and the convenience is worth $2.
However, if you are buying a rego code as well, it would seem just a wee tiny little bit sus!! (sarcasm in the last few words there!!).

Yeah i guess so greg, i only get 32,000bps here on my split line and it takes upto 20 mins to download. But i guess after having many virus's in the past that i prefer to download stuff from the correct web page, rather than get a disc off someone you dont know and hope they didnt include a nasty virus in there on purpose or accident.
Love the sarcastic comment /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3rofl3.gif Would be good to find out from that lady exactly where she bought it from, seen as the person selling it gave her a code. Cant that person get in big trouble for that?

Admin would know better than me, but I would imagine so, yes.
I'm just happy with the Pokie Magic games...
