View Full Version : Your Favorite/Worst Movie & WHY???

I thought that seeing how this lounge had the word Movie in it , it would be a good idea to hear from all, what they would claim their all-time Best movie and/or Worst movies were, of all time, I know I'm getting over the wrong side of 50, but at heart I'm a real :!cid_08c0 :!cid_08c0 :!cid_08c0 :!cid_08c0 , happy movies do it for me.
One day I was feeling really down and had about 2-3weeks of the same :2dung: going on in my life, so as I wasn't a big Ben Kingsley fan, I took myself off to probably one of the first real extra-terrestrial movies of the modern era :alien_pro :alien_pro :alien_pro E.T. , both movies were vying for the Oscar that year about '83, I'm still amazed that Ghandi won after comparing it with E.T.
It had some of the new type xtra fx in it and had a storyline that could be applied to all eras of mankind, from the toddler who simply liked it for the sights and the hard won result to the elder people who could grasp the full implications of the FBI/CIA getting their hands of that little green being. To the fact that there was a lesson for mankind, that even 1 being is invaluable, had me    in the end.
My worst movie, well I've taken up enough time and will enlighten you on that at a later date. :icon_blah :icon_blah :icon_blah :icon_blah

ok i think i will do a top five all time greats
what dreams may come, it made me cry from start till finish and for about a week after as well lol.
brokedown palace a really good true story and again made me cry.
rocky horror picture show just because i love it.
pulp fiction i love quinton tanortino( i think thats how you spell it)
and last but not lest never ending story, ever since i watched as a kid it has held a special place in my heart.
and the absoult worst film i have ever watched was swept away with madona in it, it was so bad i watched the whole thing just to see how bad it was and by the end i couldnt belive any one could right such cr*p.
My favourite movie of all time would be Dirty Dancing. I love the 60's music, and the dancing.
The worst movie would be The Worst Movie Ever Made (YES that's what it's called). I watched it as a dare as the video store gave you one week of free rentals if you could watch it from start to finish! It was nothing but 1 1/2 hours of a large lady crawling in and out of a box!

Glad to see you finally decided to play Peter, it only took you three posts before we could get that out of you, was that think time or were you getting more #1's,      , thanks for taking part, there is plenty of time for all your suggestions, it's a brand new lounge, Pete, loosen up or have they got you working too hard, especially looking after the tin lids, being serious here as I also know what it is like. I had to give up my full-time job and only work a few hours these days, I'm getting too old for all this.
Seeing how people have been putting a few down, I'd like to add my vote to a previously mentioned movie or two, " The Shawshank Redemption", how brilliant is Morgan Freeman, and "The Green Mile", seems we have similar likes Pete, as to the newer movies I'll leave them to the Tuesday morning movie goers and the young set, :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue:.

I'm not pushy am I, nah that's not it and after you coaxed me into that Fun 'n Games lounge, Jill, where by the way I'd have to say I'm the leader by now,    .

Problem is, there are a great number of films that I consider "best"...
We have a pretty extensive collection - including the kids flicks, so it is a problem being able to narrow down to just one or two....

And "cruise control 2" has to be in the bottom list somewhere as well...

My favourite movie would have to be Shrek. I took my then 7 year old godson to see it even though he'd seen it before. He sat through the movie and gave me a running commentary on what was about to happen. He'd grab my arm and say "watch this, watch this - this is a funny bit".
Don't think I actually heard what was being said because "J" was laughing so loud. :3rofl3: :3rofl3: :3rofl3:

Forgive you Monster:MISSIN~18 Thought the thread subject was a good idea:thumb:
i would just like to say i am a big sci/fi fan and thort battelfield earth was a really good movie and cant belive it got such bad reviews, and i think john travolta was brilliant.and i dont agree with alot of the other movies that are on the 100 worst site but i think the problem is people are looking to much into films to find a deeper meaning i think some movies should just be enjoyed and taken for "face value" if you know what i mean you dont go to see godzilla to find out what the meaning of life is right you go to see a gaint lizard distroy a city and because thats what i expected i really enjoyed the movie.oh and i think sci/fi movies in genral have never gotten the respect they deserve from "hollywood".
Peter Vic

Have to agree - many "worst" films are just that to a certain number of people and/or reviewers... A film should be seen as a piece of entertainment, and if it achieves that aim, then well done...
Cheers, Peter....

Well Movies - one of my favourite subjects - considering I own in excess of 300 DVD's (don't go out to the movies - BBW hates them)
I love 50 first Dates - I can watch that movie anytime.
The Green Mile is a great tear jerker
I enjoyed The Guardian - Even though Kevin Costner was in it.
Snakes on a Plane - at least it was better than Snakes on A Train.
Shawshank Redemption - excellent movie
I must admit I also enjoy anything of the sci - fi - Fantasy Genre Enjoyed Lord of The Rings - read the books back in 1976 for the first time and have read them about 4 times since. My book collection stems to 2000+ and over 50% would be Science Fantasy.
a good site to visit is - www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) - if you want to look up any info on any movie or TV show
I'll make a list when my head is clearer and let you know what I think of them.

Apart from my earlier selection, I just have to add a few more to my list of GREAT Movies:
** Green Mile.
** Shawshank Redemption.
Reasons for these 2 similar movies, is they both had great Actors, were well produced and directed and both had enormously Great Plots.
The last on the list for the moment, also has been mentioned:
** The Rocky Horror Picture Show; although it paled into insignificance beside the Live theatre version. :15cool::15cool::15cool:

My worst movie was "Music Lovers', thought I was going to see a musical but that was far from the truth of the actual movie, although I did enjoy the movie and left hysterically crying about the way life was back in the days of Chivkovsky (not sure of the spelling).
My all time favourite movie was Moulin Rouge, don't know why everyone I know who saw it thought it awful, took my mum to see it and she came out saying al those flickering lights gawd what a dreadful show, guess I'm partial to Ewan McGregor. Only dis appointment in that movie was I bought the CD after the movie and James Broadbent wasn't on it singing "The show must go on", One of the best songs too.
Quite a few shows I like, "The Others' had a nifty twist to the ending same with The Sixth Sense", like those sort of shows, makes you think about what's going on.
But then who can go past the old Lassie movies, tear jerkers everyone weren't theyl always had several boxes of tissues on standby when they were on:hahaha:
