Such a shame SUSAN, the BLUES have by far the best heritage and have languished in the bottom three teams for yonks :smirk: :smirk: , but they are definitely worth having around, every team needs an easy 4 points every now and then and the BLUES had become to be thought of as such a team, maybe this year will be different, but all I can say is GO THE BLOODS, whoops SWANS.:wavey:

Might be a spent force this year, as all their very good players are about 2 or 3 years past their prime.
But have a look at the BLOODS, whoops SWANS, and there you'll find that Paul Roos keeps on plucking young players of outstanding quality almost every year and as one member says, The Sydney Swans Rock!!!!!! :12cheer: :12cheer:

Great to have the footy back. Now there is something to watch on Telly at the weekends.
Did anyone try fantasy/dream/virtual footy teams - I reckon they are great fun, and it gives you an interest in all the games so you can watch how your players are going, and look for new talent to include in your team.
Go Swanees.

Nessa, is it still open to all and sundry or do you have to be a member of some club, secondly as Tigerlilly was talking about, do you get to change players as the year progresses and lastly how do you join each competition, the Sun Herald (is it the same one Australia wide) and the AFL one, do you have to go online to join this one ??? Storm had a fantastic season and so disappointed to be beaten on the day by the Broncos after finishing minor premiers....but as in all sport and having been said a million times before, it's how they play on the day and it only takes one winning game to hold that trophy aloft, but it takes a whole season of good play to make it to the final two....

More like coming back to earth with a :5Thud: , Susan, but don't get despondent it's only Round 2, even the best teams these days don't win them all, let's pick one, OH shall we say Sydney, there's no way know that they will come through the rest of the Home and Away series, without losing at least 1 or 2 games, but make the 8 they shall and after that anyone can win. :12cheer: :12cheer: :12cheer: . Jill, I can understand your hubby being in awe of the MIGHTY GOLD & BLACKS, and you sure hit the nail on the head with THE (BLOODS) i.e. SWANNIES as another member said The Swans Rock!!!!! :12cheer: :12cheer:
Having played both codes Rugby League mainly in NSW and Q'ld and SANFL in South Aussie, I can say they both have unique qualities about them and besides the managers the blokes who get the most money are those who play AFL (by far) as their salary cap per club is something like 4 times the amount of a RL franchise.
Anyway, come-on Friday night, we've got 2 NRL games and can tape an AFL game. :8cloud9: :8cloud9: :8cloud9: :8cloud9:
Susan why do want Austar Susan, we all know the GOOD OL' NAVY BLUES are going to be closer to the bottom eight than the top eight,

By the way Susan, it is on free to air TV today, and although a close game, I favour the RED & BLACK "JET" BOMBERS, that was really terrible what happened to youn at the footy all those years ago and it has got worse, not better.

Morning Susan, well the boys scraped home against another low ranked side, but you still get 4 points, it doesn't sound fair; if you beat a top side you should get 4 points, a mid side 3 points and a low side 2 points, after all it's not much to brag about , we beat ESSENDON, but at least you didn't lose.
Good luck to you and the boys Susan, it was an entertaining game
But that's all it is; A GAME, we don't have to become arch enemies over-it, I wish you and THE GOOD OL' NAVY BLUES, the best for the year.

For a side that came back from 48 points behind to come up and win all hats off to them, doesnt matter if it is a low or high side they are against. that is great well done to the Blues and you susan if i was you stand up and be proud mate, pocket Essendon isnt a low side anyway they are a very strong team to play against, plus it is only round three and they have won 2 and loss on.

Nessa, it's all only fun, unless of course you have your Sheep Station on it, and therefore you're livelihood, Essendon are rank outsiders to win the premiership, but can beat any team on THEIR day, and good luck to them too, of course we all have our own favourites for varying reasons, mine is geographical.
The real important thing we have to remember is we are all friends, and will stay friends no matter who wins a game, a car-race or a Horse race for that matter, lets follow our teams with pride and blame the REFEREE if things don't go as we have planned. :D :D :D :D :D

Alas I caught neither the Footy yesterday or BB last night, I was more interested in my son's Rugby League game, which they won handsomely, 42 - 0, the rules state that as soon as a team gets 50 points in front, then the game is immediately called to a halt, a great idea, HUMILIATION is not the reason my son plays sport, it is for camerarderie, exercise and discipline, all of which were part of the game when I first started playing 50years ago. :huge:
Another quick question, why is it that whenever there is a Thread started as Football, that some of the posters automatically think of AFL, there is only one football game, in Australia it is called Soccer as in some other countries, but go to most European countries, most South African countries, Asia, South American countries and the Middle-East, and you talk of marks and they would ask you who took the penalty, just something to ponder in the minimum of Spare Time that we get.

I 'm with them all,:!!!icon29 great winter sports for all the boys and girls:hurray: :hurray: :hurray: Great to see that your son's Rugby team had done so well.:hurray: :hurray: :hurray: my other grandsons are in the 2nd division under 15's Football team for KYNETON:hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

Yes the BLUES, have a few more wins left in them, if not an AFL wife, why not try politics, I believe the Labour Party are only too willing to give people who are in the limelight for the worse reasons a chance on their team, don't even care if you can kick a ball, as long as you have been in the papers, you'll get a start on the bench anyway.

Don't know the results from last night I went to bed at quarter time, I've never seen the SWANS play a worse quarter of AFL, it was disgusting, probably got up now that I have bagged them. BUT I DOUBT IT. :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue: :lmaoblue:

:huge: Have you seen how close the table is Rudi, it's as though any team can win any weekend, as for The Blues vs The 'Pies on Saturday, it's a shame that you have to play Collingwood just at the moment as they have surprised quite a few people, myself included, with the brand of AFL they are playing at the moment.
You will certainly have your work cut out with the Mighty Black & Whites on Saturday, although I wish you well, lets hope we see the game, like the Old Carlton vs Collingwood games of past years where there were 90,000 roaring fans at the Good Old MCG, what a spectacle they used to be. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Rudi, you sure are stubborn when it comes to an AFL side, when I agree with you that this could be a blinder of a game, how do you know Carlton are to win, wish you'd tell me then I could win every Roulette Spin I played, and we are in the same PM Team, so what's the secret, I'm getting bashed by this Roulette Wheel, tonite

Have The BLUES won an AFL/VFL Comp in that time Rudi??
I follow Balmain and have done so since 1967, used to watch them on Black and White TV on Friday nights from the previous Sunday two years later we won a COMPETITION and it wasn't until 1988 and 1989 when I went to every HOME GAME both years, we made the Grand Final again, it's been a long wait, and we are no longer Balmain, but the TIGERS live on with the NRL Amalgamation Policy when they joined with Wstern Suburbs Magpies, we had little cash flow and had lost all our good players, then a bunch of 20 year olds with a couple of Hard Heads amongst them came out and won the last 7 or 8 games in a row (the last three, the Play-Offs by big margins), including the 2005 GRAND FINAL. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
You wouldn't believe it but we beat North Queensland in the Play-offs and Grand Final, from up around Big A's Territory although not as far up as Big A, I don't think, hope. :!!!!yello :!!!!yello

Or maybe, just maybe the one after that. I figured they might win one out of three, but a true supporter follows his team thru thick or thin.
Rudi, you didn't answer my question early this morning, I think it was, how long since Carlton have won a Premiership, VFL/AFL, I thought they were a team with a great heritage. :huge: :huge: Especially when Mr Elliott was running the show !!!!
In NRL I have a 2nd team, as I used to play for Illawarra, with John Dorahy and Allan Mc Mahon (both touring Kangaroos) and Mum always listens to every one of the Amalgamated teams games, St George/Illawarra.

Michael it has been a very long time since they have won,but not as long as collingwood
I don't support any of the teams........ too much of a sissy game these days
Even the NRL has long lost it since the days of Wally, Mal, Stirlo and not forgetting Fatty :thumb:
