Believe it or not, a lot of people think that the 2007 Rugby Union World Cup, held in FRANCE, should have been limited to 6 Teams, the Tri-Nations Teams of New Zealand, South Africa and Australia, plus the (three) 3 best sides from the Northern Hempisphere (those being England, France and one of the other Top Six Teams, i.e. Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy). :brow: :brow: :brow:.
Well everyone is entitled to their opinion and I like many think that some teams are only there to make up the numbers and/or nuisance value only, but having said that the NUMBER 1 Seeds were rolled last night (AET), by about 15-12 by a side that the World Rugby Union has put a lot of money into rfor the past 30-40 years, the ARGENTINE PUMAS, only one try was scored but it was scored by the winning side. :thumb:
It has proved to me that beides the (Soccer) Football World Cup, we do now have something that can hold it's head up besides it, certainly, not NRL or for that matter AFL have anything to compare to this magnificent event, Australia, always seem to produce their best Union in the World Cups and I hope that 2007 is no different, because whether or not they can hear me barracking in France and in particular the Western and Central sections of France, I will be yelling C'MON AUSSIE C'MON, :!ban_danc:!ban_danc:!ban_danc:!ban_danc:!ban_danc :!ban_danc.

SPOILERS ALERT: re THE Rugby Union World Cup, Australia vs Japan and New Zealand vs Italy.
Well we kicked off our World cup entrance last night/early this morning with a well deserved win over The Cherry Blossoms (Japan), it was good to see one B. Barnes get a run on in the 2nd half, he was on the field all of 30seconds before scorinr a good try, as can be imagined with a large squad it will take Australia the first round to settle on a fixed team, they will have to sharppen some of their skills as although they won handsomely, New Zealand beat Italy by some sort of point scoring record, and Italy, only new to the Six nations (Nthn Hemisphere Comp) were not meant to be easy beats at this stage of their preparation for a World Cup appearance. We are in for a torrid World Cup seeing as that was only New Zealands first game as well. :23goodjobALL BLACKS.

Exactly right there Grumpy, must admit that there are only about 6-7 teams who could win the World Cup, but then again as I mentioned in an earlier post, the RU World Body put a fair bit of time, effort and money into one of these "new to the game at the time" Nations, I am speaking of THE PUMAS (Argentina) and lo and behold they have found enough "confidence, persistence and will to win" to actually beat the #1 Seeds (at the bare minimumm of the Northern Hemisphere, they have been getting crowds on an average of 35,000 per game, not bad cosidering the price of the Euro :jail::jail:. Come the Grand Final and where it will be held, (I do so hope that it's Australia vs Emgland at Millenium Stadium), they are likely to get a Full House of 74,500 fans of Rugby Union and we will have our day. :12cheer::12cheer::12cheer::12cheer::12cheer:
This World Cup , at present looks better than the Last One in SYDNEY, and it seems to be growing exponentially, so they are doing somethings right, sure no-one likes to see Cricket Scores in Rugby Union, but the mere fact that there are a minimum of 50 Nations to pick the final field from says that they are headed in the right direction, it won't happen overnight but I applaud them for willingness to make the RU World Cup all the better, it will take a grewar while but they are getting there,.
Only good thing about doing Night Shifts Michael, I can watch the games :lmaoblue:probably missing the best matches when I'm not working.

SPOILERS ALERT (AUSTRALIA vs WALES)
As of approximately 40minutes ago, Australia now sits at the Top of it's Group with a convincing (32 - 20) win over the WELSH, the game was held at the new Millenium Stadium, in front of 65,000 screaming Welshmen and the odd sprinkling of Australians, the new Stadium (much like the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, has a movable roof and was built on the site of the old Cardiff Arms Park) with the size of the crowd and Welsh expectations HIGH, the noise was deafening for the first 10 minutes, then Man of the Match, newcomer, Berrick Barnes silenced the large crowd by assisting Australia to a 20-3 lead, mid to late in the first half, when you could just about hear a pin drop, as in just about all Australia vs Wales games, the Home side made inroads in the 2nd half, but by then the bird had flown, GREAT game by Berrick, who found out only in the last 24 hours that he would be the starting fly-half. :thumb:

Well the World Cup of Rugby Union, has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pidgeons, Argentina in the Semi-Finals and the 2 Favourite teams are at home (NZ and Australia), at least we know we will have a Northern Hemisphere Team playing a Southern Hemisphere Team.
Bookies are shouting everyone a bottle of wine in France, they have certainly picked up a Motza in wagers, the only real winner besides the bookies would have to be The IRB, the crowds have been superb even in the Group matches, with the crowd always going wild when the Japanese "Cherry Blossoms" scored, they were easily the smallest team, in a group, than all the other sides, yet managed to do OK in their last game (12-12 vs Canada).
Another 4 year wait for NZ to even get a glimpse of the William Webb Trophy, they are amzing, for 4 years leading up to every World Cup, they are the #1 seeds in Rugby Union, come the World Cup, and something always goes wrong even when they make the Final (as in 1999, when RSA won on home soil, I think they have been in another Final, but that was eons ago, when you talk about RU World Cups), surely the best team in the World must win a World Cup soon.
Cheers (and no more as I have lost interest with Oz out)
Michael.

Obviously not every-one's idea of a good sport, but extremely well supported in the Summer Seasons, particularly in Australia and England.
Originally it was the Number #1 Sport in the Colony and as a means of keeping the lads in the Southern States, Fit and Agile for the forthcoming Cricket season, the administrators put their heads together and came up with VFL, as a fledgling sport to ensure that the Lads were ready to put Willow upon Leather (throughout the Cricket Season). :huge:
I can only gather as a whole that cricket is either loved or loathed, to each his/her own, but as Australia (again World Champions) starts out on another big Season, with the Whitewash of Sri Lanka, we are about to host India, and thankfully it is in Australia, always have problems beating India in a Full Series, back in India.
I, for one, am looking forward to this Season with probably the Best Three Competitors in the 50 over a side Game, it should be a sparkling Season and we have proved we are in form by the way we beat Sri Lanka.
GO AUSSIE GO

Pete, I can still remember the first Test match I watched (only the single day, as it was a fair way from home) back in the Summer of either 70/71 or 71/72 at the SCG (I am really pushing the memory now), am almost certain that it was against "The Speed Demons" of the West Indies, the #1 Team in the World at that time, Australia wasn't even 2nd, as the Poms used to be able to beat us more than 50% of the time, :!!!icon41 :!!!icon41.
But as per usual, time marches on and I now find the comforts of home and the LED Screen give you a better picture of the game, sure you miss the atmosphere, but at least you aren't sunburnt and uncomfortable at the end of the day.
When working in outback areas, I used to sit glued to the radio, and I must say that I felt the atmosphere more on radio than on the more sterile TV, :huge:,

Certainly made plenty of Aussie fans, most of them from Greek backgrounds, but has the charisma to charm anyone, and an exceptional player, who really lowered his Rankings starting with Wimbeldon two years ago, I'd say is Safin has a night off and Hewitt gets thru, and that is a toss of a coin with Safin, Baggypants will have his measure as Hewitt is nowhere near match fit. :huge:

HOW GOOD is , R Federer, at tennis, he seems to have an extra 2 gears than anyone else, when at his best. :14clap: :14clap:.
I only watched the first two sets last night , J Blake, who has jumped into the top 10 rankings after this Tournament and has been playing amazing tennis, threw everything at him, even shots between his legs, he was lucky enough not to follow through too far, :3rofl3::3rofl3:, won the point then still got beaten in this set, i was going to watch it all, just to watch the sheer brilliance of Roger, but the Sandman sprinkled a bit of sleep dust in my eyes and it was time to go to bed,  .
It will be another Grand finish to the Men's Final, or whenever Roger has to play , who has only taken 6 Majors to make it into the top 16, twice, the last time was the last Open he contested, could be better then Yannick Noah, :thumb: :thumb:.

Yes, the BIG Frenchman is an absolute freak when it comes to poise, stamina, and making the "Hard" look "Easy", and absolute delight to watch and he seems to have the temperament to go all the way, up to #1, time will tell if he can maintain that level, but after watching what he did to the #2 player in the World, it sure seems as though he can do anything, as it appeared he had at least 2 gears to go up , BRAVO JOE,

RESULT OF LAST NIGHT's MEN 2nd SEMI FINAL - AUST. OPEN
What a ripper of a Game last Night, what really amazes me is the ease that the World's #1 (& #2) games were ripped to shreds, sure Roger was playing the 3rd Seed and #3 in the World, (please excuse my Serbian as I can't get my fingers around his name, he has come ahead in leaps and bounds, has played Roger twice before, beat him in a Round of a Tournament and then played him in the US Open, where Roger won, last year). :thumb:
I have heard that the Aust. Open shouldn't be considered a Major Tounament anymore, but if anyone has watched the last two weeks of Tennis, I am sure they will agree that this Tournament has brought out the best in those just below the absolute top tier and shown what they can do, alas Roger was not himself, as I have never seen him beaten three straight sets and MATCH to zero before ever, also we have that fantastic Joe Tsongo to look forward to, who appears can do anything on the court.:huge:
It was a good game Michael, however I would have loved to watch a Federer-Tsonga final:cry: Roger really did look off his game, certainly not his vibrant self.

I know the Serbian played the match of his "life" but can't help but have this gut feeling that what you are saying is 100% correct Kaye, I think he is injured, and it's only happened in the past month as they have their annual Time-Out over Xmas, and that would have fixed any little injury he had prior to the break so it seems as though he was off his game because of a recent injury. He just didn't have those 2 extra gears, the way he used to be able to pull himself out of impossible scenario's as in the past, I hope we get to see him at his best again, as he is the best Tennis player I have seen "LIVE", even though I have seen clips of the "Rod Laver and Ken Rosewell", it just isn't the same as the game is so different. :huge:

A lot of Statistics were ripped to shreds last night at the Rod Laver Arena, firstly and foremost, both contestants had played a total of 1 Slam Final between them, neither player had lost a Match after winning the First Set, the crowd swung wildly between the Players, with some other the spectators becoming extremely over exuberant :ANGRY1~15, but nothing was to become of that because what was happening on the court was so exhilarating.
Both Players showed glimpses of why they had gone so far in the Tournament, but neither were really able to overcome the anxiety of the situation and thus play the free flowing Tennis that had got them there.
I can't do the Game justice in words, but will remember this final as one of the VERY BEST MAJOR FINALS, I have ever seen, taking everything into consideration, I think we will be seeing a changing of the guard in the not too distant future, :23goodjobto both players for their efforts to put on a Great Spectacle. :thumb: :thumb:.

Was a spectacular event that is for sure... I wanted Tsonga to win though, very unassumming... Djokovic was a little disturbing in his antics although he was the better player on the night.
Bouncing that ball as many times as Djokovic does, really must unsettle the other player. Especially someone like Federer who bends soo low while waiting to receive...
Good job though boys was great to watch!

Well it looks like the Aussies have finally got the idea of how to play Limited overs games again, strange how they have been playing as World Champs (undefeated in 29 World Cup Games over 12 Years, says something) but only very lucky to win some of the games, :brow: :brow: :brow:, maybe they've had a quid on Sri Lanka to win the Tri-Series, it's been known to happen before. :16wink: :16wink:.
I thought for a fleeting moment that India was going to pull off a miracle while their captain was in a good partnership with one of the Great batsmen left, but they were under the pump from the word go, over 6 runs an over in this Series is remarkable, but in days of yore it was nothing to see scores of 350+ to win and quite often that's what they did, except at the dreaded SCG, :MISSIN~18.
But in reality it didn't take Einstein to work out that that the best form of defence is attack, go out and play your free flowing game, surely these bowlers aren't that much better than they have faced in the past 12 years, in fact I'd say they were only mediocre, but then again I didn't have to bat against them , :) :).
WELL it's seems Australia has worked out what it was doing wrong now we have to wait and see if Sri Lanka and India will follow suit. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

To have Ferrari as the favourite for Builders Competition, is a farce and only lets you get a great price you the REAL competitors for that much sought after piece of Silverware. How can you possibly have Ferrari as Championship material, new car and all.
Yesterday may have been a race of attrition, but I certainly didn't see anything to make me want to rush out and put my hard-earned on the Red Beast, in fact I think they'll be lucky to make the TOP 3, gone are the days of Ferrari invincibility and that's great, besides preferring virtually any other car on the racetrack, I love seeing OPEN Competition, for my money it's between, BMW, Mercedes and Renault, but that's only my thoughts, I know there will be disagreements but that's what's Great about a forum, each member has their views and can voice them if appropriate.

The Finn passed his FERRARI team-mate Felipe Massa thanks to a stunning lap before his first pit stop, after which he dominated the race."
oh my was that a FERRARI THAT WON IN MALAYSIA:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::l aughing:

Congratulations to Kimi from Finland, but what of his Team-mate Felipe Massa, you need two cars to win the CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP, but poor old Felipe couldn't stand the heat when under no pressure at all in 2nd place, there is just something about this years "Prancing Stallion" that doesn't sit right with me, and it's not that I can't afford one, which I can't, they just seem underdone, going for too much too soon, of course it is "The best looking vehicle on the circuit", I wonder if they'll give them a prize for that, they are helped in every other way. :3rofl3: :3rofl3: :3rofl3:.
But you are right Katina, Kimi will drag that Ferrari over the line if he has to, he has been well taught by a myriad of other Constructors. Problem is Kimi is a bit like Felipe, seems to attract trouble, no matter which Team he is driving for and Felipe is just a walking time bomb.

You are correct to a certain extent as am I, Katina, from about 2005 when Ferrari brought out the 360 Spider (and called the Logo "The Prancing Stallion") it (Ferrari) cars have been interminably known as the Prancing Horse & the Prancing Stallion, mainly to attract, what they believe to be their niche market, the Male Millionaire YUPPIE. :MISSIN~18.
Another problem that Ferrari, as well as a lot of other Teams will face, this year is that just about all of the younger drivers have never driven these sort of Powerful vehicles without Traction Control, to name but one change for this year, whilst Kimi has driven without Traction control, Felippe has not and with the horsepower thes vehicles produce it will be hard for one and all, it comes back to my first statement, and that is I can't see the value in backing Ferrari to win their 16th CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP, given that all vehicles will be trying to improve their position and that Ferrari only fell across the line last year, thanks to some brilliant driving by the Flying Finn, and I don't mean Paavo Nurmi, HA HA HA, anyway there's no way the bookies will be getting my hard fought for cash, no matter who is favourite, ROFL ROFL ROFL !!!!

so are you saying Ferrari won't try and improve their position?? Formula One is more than a sport, its a multi billion dollar industry and to think that they would just sit back and let others take the lead is ridiculous.
And all drivers are in the same positon regarding traction control as its been outlawed. Young drivers never had it before they entered F1 and the more experienced drivers won't have it either. It works out even. If anything the young drivers have the advantage because they didn't have something and had to give up!!
I personally have a favourite team - not necessarily Ferrari - and I and my family have supported them through the good and bad times. We of course want them to do well, but really don't care if they win or lose as long as they have clean fair races.
Kimi and Massa both drove for Ferrari last year - how could one of them had traction control last year and the other one didn't????????????????????????
Goodness me guys...enough already eh!

Totally different tact - the aussie olympic swinmming trials - some amazing world records being set by the athletes...
Hope that these performances translate into gold for the competitors...!
Plus, makes for some great viewing when they are on/near/infront of that red line across the pool....
Cheers, Peter...
Will be interesting to see how the Chinese compete with them Peter.

long as the drugs testing is accurate, then I think the Aussies will do really well - some excellent young talent coming thru (on both sides of the gene pool) - slips a quick pun in...
I agree Peter, they are performing outstandingly. I was just thinking of what the Chinese swimmers look like with their broad shoulders :brow: Will also be interesting to see if there is controversy over their new swimmers once they're there, can't for the life of me see what difference a costume makes to talet, but there has been comments already.

The new suits make about 5% difference (according to Speedo), but these are theoretical differences... They make some difference, but I'd like to think that talent prevails, especially when the suits make a minor difference...

The problem with these "swimming suits" is vast but on the other hand simple, we (the cycling public) would still me using non-geared bicycled unless someone had the "audacity" to challenge common thinking, it works like this with the "swimming suits" China has an enormous population as do a few other countries and will probably not use the suits, but you have to realize we are a couple of months away from the Olympics, I'm sure every Competitive swimming Country has the opportunity to use these suits, or very similar ones at the Olympics, there should be no excuses, it is a simple choice,

I'm sure every Competitive swimming Country has the opportunity to use these suits.
Think you will find that they (most if not all) already do use them or leastwise have them.. Something that can't be factored in, is the "placebo" effect that these suits have.. Yes, they do make some minor physical improvement, but the psychological effect may be a more major factor - If one thinks that the suit can make such a difference, then it certainly be the motivation to do well.. And this is something that cannot be measured.....
Except at the winning post....
Cheers, Peter...

You are quite true Peter, the "placebo" effect can be exceedingly strong depending on the individual, there have been many medical studies that have shown that those taking the placebo pill will achieve far better results than all other participants. :thumb:.

Great to see Libby Trickett (nee Lenton) pick up another world record...
Our papers are calling her "the fastest woman on the planet"
These trials certainly have produced some fabulous results - Bejing (and the rest of the world) "watch out"...
