Pokie players to get statements
Victorian pokie players will soon know exactly how much time and money they lose at gaming venues.
Under new laws to be enforced next month, the state's 535 pokies venues - including Crown Casino - will be required to provide player activity statements detailing monthly wins and losses.
The statement must be mailed to all members of poker machine loyalty schemes at least once every 12 months but can be requested at any time.
But family members concerned about problem gambling will not get access to a person's spending history without consent.
The Herald Sun said the Bracks government gaming reforms would be boosted next January, when players will be able to set their own daily loss and time limits.
More than 1 million Victorian gamblers are members of loyalty programs operated by either Tattersall's, Tabcorp or the casino.
The schemes, which lavish punters with an array of freebies and discounts, require punters to swipe identification cards and accumulate reward points for every dollar spent playing.
Victorian punters lose $2.56 billion a year, or $7.01 million a day, about half of which is estimated to come from problem gamblers' pockets.
