I'd hate to be judging that one. The slap across the face constitutes assault occasioning bodily harm....or something like that...

Does the bouncer have the right to strike back? and if so, was the return strike excessive, etc, etc, etc, etc.??

Oh yuck. But you are right, they DO overreact lots.

I've worked and managed bars in nightclubs/strip clubs for 7 years.....the problem with bouncers is most of them think that once they pin on their security license that they are better than anyone else and above the law!!
Yes bouncers are allowed to strike back BUT it must only be after they have attempted to remove the patron from the premisses (resonable force can be used) and even after that the strike back has to be in self defence. Least that's what i've always been told by police when there's been a similar prob where i've worked.

I wouldnt think a simple open hand slap would warrant self defence being needed to the extreme that bouncer took it. I would hope he will at the very least loose his security license!
