Hi
I downloaded a few of your trial games yesterday as they looked really good but was disapointed that none of them will work on my system:

Windows 98 SE
Asus A7V333 motherboard
Athlon XP 2000 Palamino CPU
ATI Radeon 7500 (current drivers)
256MB Kingmax PC2700 DDR ram
DirectX 8.1

Install goes ok but as soon as i try to run the games I get instant blue screen with Fatal Exception OE at 0028:C0059511

I've done a search at google, here, and Microsoft site but nother turns up on that error code.

Current install of OS is only 2 weeks old and I'm not experiencing any other blue screen problems.

Hope you have some ideas as I was looking forward to playing these games. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

ok i may be able to help you but there should be more to that error message than you have posted. As an example >>>A Fatal Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:XXXXXXXX in VXD SYMEvent >>> tells you the error code and what program the error occured in (symevent = a symantec program ie; nortons, can cause this error by installing an older version).
So firstly i need to know if there was anything else on the end on the error code, where the error occured in?
Secondly have you tried a windows 98 update? i used to have alot of blue screens and after doing an update it eliminated them. I know you said you only installed the OS 2 weeks ago but its still a 98 version and therefor may need updating of your critical files etc.
Anyhow if theres nothing else on the end of the error message, definately do an update, good luck and i hope it works for you.
Cheers /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

OK i reinstalled a game and went to play it and instant blue screen. The full message is A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0059511 The current application will be terminated. It doesn't mention anything about what it occurred in or any vxd and I'm not sure what you're referring to with symevent?

I also previously replied to this thread but a post i made seems to have gone missing. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It is a long time since I used Win98, but did you reboot your system after installing Pokie Magic but before playing the game?

Also, did you run Windows Update and get the latest and greatest from Microsoft for your operating system. You are running a modern processor/memory/video card with a 5 year old operating system, so you would need to update.

I vaguely remember being told you should always reboot your system (with Win98 at least) to allow for system files, etc, etc, to be updated.

(symevent = a symantec program ie; nortons, can cause this error by installing an older version).

yeah "symevent" was just an example of the error code and how it should tell you where the error is.

But like i said and as greg also said, think its a good idea to do a system update so that you have the latest graphics drivers, direct x, ocx and dll files etc.
Good luck with it.

System is totally up to date with any available files from Microsoft update. Drivers for sound and graphics card are most recent. I have DirectX 8.1 installed but will not update to DX9 because my card doesn't support it. There simply is *nothing* more to update. I have rebooted system after game installed but no difference. Unless someone can offer a reasonable theory and solution for the error code then I will have to give up.

Have done some investigating online, Watcher, and discovered there are a lot of people out there (found at least 50 references without searching for more than a few minutes) having problems with the Radeon 7500 card and Windows 98 and DirectX 8.1.

Although everything seems to install correctly, diagnostic software is reporting that DirectX is NOT installed correctly for some reason. The ATI updated drivers do not fix the problem. Some people have fixed it by going to DirectX9, some people have fixed the problem by going through their settings and installing components of DirectX, still others have updated operating systems.

Is there any other software at all that is having a problem on your machine, particularly games or video software?

(oh, to find some of the problems listed, do a search in google for Radeon 7500 problems).

Something else to try - lower your screen resolution to 800x600 if you are running anything higher. Some versions of our games (mostly the very early ones) would not run at higher screen resolutions.

I'm not having any other blue screen crash problems except with an occasional one with the latest version of Kazaa Lite which is a bit touchy about being closed while online.
I'm quite a heavy video user and probably the main purpose I use the machine for in the way of capturing, playing dvd and converting to SVCD's etc and I have no problems there.
I'm not really a game player and only have pokies type games on here from various other companies without problems.

I'm in 1024x768 at the moment and didn't think to try lowering the resolution, although I did try and play one of the games in safe mode to minimise what was loaded just in case there was a conflict there, of course in safe mode the resolution is lowered to basic 640x480, anyway it didn't work and i got an identical crash.:(

Anyway chances are that if I did solve the problem now that the game demos wouldn't operate anyway because of the 7 days or 1000 spin limit, since it's been more that 7 days since I first installed them and likely some entry deep in the registry is going to remind the game of the 7 days elapsing so I'd never get to play them anyway. I will probably update the graphics card soon and go back to Win XP so I'll try again then. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. /webboard/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Regards the 7 day limit - this was removed for all games after version 12.
